As promised, here’s the debrief on tonight’s Nikita, entitled “Phoenix”:

Last week’s Nikita episode, “The Recruit,” deviated from the norm to develop an underused component of the series. With that behind us, I wonder if “Phoenix” will feel like a more complete episode as a result.

It sort of picks up from “The Recruit,” as Thom (Ashton Holmes) is the agent on a mission: to eliminate Anna, the mistress of a Senator (Spencer Garrett, who seems to be typecast as a jerk, be it in Cold Case, The Good Guys, Leverage and now this) who’s agreed to keep the money coming to Division as long as they cover up his indiscretions. Ah, that all-important funding we’re always hearing everyone refer to (Nikita in “Pilot” and Percy in “Rough Trade”). It really does all come down to money, doesn’t it?

As such, I bring you my weekly Nikita feature, focusing on Michael, of course!

It’s hard not to feel sorry for Nikita‘s Michael (Shane West). The man cannot seem to catch a break. (No wonder why he seems to be permanently disgruntled.)

We’ve been teased all season long about an episode that will shed some light on the backstory of Division’s good soldier, and that episode, entitled “One Way,” will finally be airing next week. However, if you’ve read the synopsis released for that episode, you might be with me in wondering what exactly it means for the world’s most awesome unhappy employee.

Once & Again 1.04 “Liars and Other Strangers” Rewind Recap
In the first three episodes, Once & Again has covered dating, sex and the stigmas that come with both. So what’s on tap for episode four? Nothing, and that’s the problem. Rick and Lily can’t get their schedules to coordinate, so they have nowhere private to go, at least until Lily’s sister Judy offers up her place. It’s perfect until her sister comes home early and discovers them all over each other. The first meeting between sibling and significant other does not go well. While the adults are indisposed, the kids are left to pick up the pieces. Eli has to cover for Rick when Karen arrives early and looking for him. Grace, meanwhile, struggles with her crush on Eli. In an attempt to one-up Jennifer, she signs up for the high school’s mock trial team, on which Jennifer is prosecuting attorney.

Once & Again 1.03 “The Scarlet Letter Jacket” Rewind Recap
When last we left Once & Again, there had been some pretty big steps forward taken in everyone’s relationships. So where do they all go from there? Rick and Lily are still unable to keep their lips off each other, as we find out when he makes an unannounced visit to her house in the morning. She detaches herself from him, only to find out from Grace everything that happened last episode – that there’s that nasty rumor about Grace and Eli that almost blew up Eli’s relationship with Jennifer. I would feel more sympathetic if it wasn’t Grace’s own fault said rumor got started in the first place. Lily has to deal with the ramifications of her relationship with Rick becoming public, such as one of her friends being one of Karen’s friends. Awkward. Speaking of awkward, Grace and Eli get thrown together for a class project – something which anyone who survived high school can tell you is either really fun or horrible torture, depending on who you end up stuck with. (I was one of those kids who never had a partner unless I was lucky enough to have a friend in class. Then again I never knew anyone in high school as adorable and actually intelligent as Eli, or I would have been in love.) This does not help Grace’s public perception issues.
